This old mosque has become increasingly dilapidated due to frequent flooding.
A New Mosque Needs to Be Built Urgently for the Worship Needs of the Community in Kg. Berhala Gantang, Temerloh
The construction of a new mosque is essential to provide a proper place of worship for the residents of Kg. Berhala Gantang. Your support will help provide a space for the community to gather and worship comfortably.
Current Situation of the Mosque
Explanation by Ustaz Hirman Khairi, Chairman of Masjid Al Hassan
The location of the old mosque’s land, being at a low elevation, is the main cause of frequent severe flooding every year, with water levels rising above waist height. The rapid rise in water causes significant damage to worship equipment and furniture, resulting in tens of thousands of ringgit in repairs annually.
Meanwhile, complaints from the youth about the discomfort, heat, and cramped conditions during Friday prayers are becoming more frequent. They are forced to pray in tight quarters, under a piece of old zinc roofing, exposed to the harsh midday sun.
This old mosque was originally built to accommodate the small local population, with only 1 or 2 rows (saf) filled. However, today, the number of congregants has increased significantly, tripling the original capacity.
Hundreds of congregation members also attend religious classes and lectures every week in the area outside the mosque, sheltered only by two tents. Despite these poor conditions, the mosque committee remains dedicated and active in organizing educational programs, such as the Dhuha lecture sessions, which have been running for many years.
Next to the old mosque is a dormitory and class for the Tahfiz students, who also share the same mosque. Not only do they use it for worship, but they also occupy the main prayer hall of the old mosque for 6 hours daily for their memorization (hafazan) sessions.
If the donations for the construction of the new mosque are sufficient, the new mosque will be built, and the old mosque will be repurposed into a dedicated Tahfiz madrasah for the students’ exclusive use.
“If it’s an afternoon class, there’s always a sense of discomfort, heat, and stuffiness. After returning to the dormitory at noon, we definitely need to take a shower.”
The new mosque requires RM3 million in funding to be completed as soon as possible. It will be built on higher ground next to the main road to reduce the risk of flooding.
Therefore, the mosque committee of Masjid Al-Hassan, along with thousands of local residents in Kg. Berhala Gantang, is appealing to various parties to contribute donations in the form of charity, infaq, or waqf.
The construction of this new mosque will benefit over 1,000 local residents by providing:
- A comfortable place for congregational prayers
- A space for attending religious lectures and educational programs
- A center for local dakwah (propagation of faith)
- Facilities for handling funerals and burials
The new mosque will ensure that the primary place of worship for the residents of Kg. Berhala Gantang is no longer at risk of being affected by severe floods every year.
Tahfiz students will also be able to fully utilize the old mosque as their madrasah for daily learning.
The Prophet Muhammad SAW said:
“Whoever builds a mosque for the sake of Allah, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise.”
— (Hadith narrated by Muslim)
Indeed, no contribution is ever wasted; its rewards and benefits will be felt in the eternal life in the Hereafter, In Shaa Allah.
